Sculptural edges with contrasting patterns and color palettes lend a custom touch to the table with unexpected ease–perfect for a contemporary spin on a classic table setting.
“While the motto of more is more is always in style with us, the more prevalent philosophy we adhere to is even more adaptable: Don’t just copy and paste what you see. Play with your plates to find a new way of seeing. This season’s unexpected silhouettes–like the Juliska Jardins du Monde in its geometric form and glazed porcelain shape is on trend while remaining timeless.”
We’ve long adhered to the idea that mixing and matching pops of color and texture is the perfect creative ritual for finding the perfect place settings. But a new era of irreverence and artistry has surfaced in the last few years, making similar iterations of shapes, textures, and tones all the more interesting when it comes to playing with your plates. And perhaps no one is doing it better than the dynamic duo of luxury wedding planners Alice and Apricot with event florist Petals Couture.
A Lesson in Artistry and Influence with Two Dallas Icons
There are a handful of “marriages” in our industry, and one such beautiful bond is the professional fusion of an event/wedding planner and florist. Together, they must speak the complex language of pulling beauty out of thin air — turning, say, an empty room or field into pure theater by arranging colors and texture with a masterful sense of silhouettes and a bird's-eye view, not to mention those up close and personal details for special touches here and there plus exquisite tabletops. If that sounds like a lot, it’s because it is. You need a skillful florist with true staying power—one who loves their craft but is unafraid to play around and capture the whims of every client and the deft designs of Dallas’s best event planners. And if you know the husband-and-wife-led team behind Petals Couture, you know they have put their heart and soul into just this way in every design they’ve touched.
To celebrate fifteen years of floral artistry, Petals Couture turned the tables on their top clients by setting the table for the planners who have supported their growth and artistry over the years. Frequent collaborator and friends Alice and Apricot planned and designed the tablescape and event timeline while Petals did what they do best–dripped architectural floral from ceiling to place setting.
The Aesthetic: A Fresh Take on Blue and White
Alice and Apricot is also always one to rise to the occasion when it comes to pattern play. We dare you to find another planner more willing to break the rules and stack more shapes, textures, or tones–and always to a stunningly beautiful effect. Together with Petals Couture, these two Dallas icons gave us a masterful lesson in layering.
Blue-and-white has long been one of entertaining's most beloved color combinations. Yet what makes this table feel so current is its departure from the expected. Rather than leaning into traditional navy or cobalt, Alice and Apricot explored a softer spectrum of blues—the perfect summer chambray shade from Juliksa, cobalt blue from Mottahedeh, and a soft, smoky concrete gray. The palette feels lighter, more romantic, and wonderfully layered, especially when paired with electric blue orchids from Petals Couture.
The Trend: Tablescape Maxxing
If you’ve spent any amount of time on the dear old internet, you’ve likely encountered the term maxxing. Originally emerging from internet culture through phrases like looksmaxxing, sleepmaxxing, and healthmaxxing, the concept simply means taking something to its fullest potential through thoughtful optimization and intentional enhancement. Or as eighties babies would say–to the Max!
The entertaining world has naturally embraced this philosophy through design. Tablescape maxxing is the art of layering color, texture, pattern, florals, lighting, and decorative details to create a table that feels immersive rather than minimal. It’s never about excess; rather, it’s about intention.
The most successful tablescape maxxing doesn't rely on more pieces—it relies on the right pieces, thoughtfully layered to create depth, personality, and visual intrigue.
The Statement Stack
Inspired by the romance of garden landscapes and the artistry of hand-drawn motifs, the Juliska Jardins du Monde pattern brings an effortless elegance to the table. There is a softness to the pattern that feels collected rather than formal—a quality that makes it equally at home at a wedding reception, anniversary dinner, or summer garden gathering.
To create depth, Alice and Apricot layered Jardin atop our beloved Mottahedeh Blue Lace Charger, grounded by the always-in-demand contemporary concrete charger. The pairing feels both unexpected and entirely natural. Jardin offers movement and spontaneity while the Blue Lace introduces heritage and structure. One feels poetic, the other architectural. Together, they create the kind of visual conversation that makes a table memorable and a contemporary spin on the classic blue and white tablescape that graces so many Southern affairs.
