Chef Series | Samir Dhurandhar

We are back with another installment of our POSH chef series, featuring some of our favorite Texas chefs. Here at POSH, the culinary arts are one of our favorite art forms, as they go hand in glove with what we love to do... set the scene for gorgeous and memorable events, parties and meals. Today we are bringing you renowned chef Samir Dhurandhar, who is well loved here in Dallas and who certainly knows how to make an impression with his amazing culinary creations.

Samir's passion for food started at the age of 13 in Bombay, India, where he started his career in Sheraton Hotels before moving to New York to study at the acclaimed Culinary Institution of America in Hyde Park. His career path took him from a chef’s position at John Harvard’s Brew House in Long Island, to the Heartland Brewery and Sfuzzi in New York, before making the move to Dallas in 1999 when Phil Romano and Joe Palladino wooed him with an executive chef position to open their Dallas steakhouse. It has definitely been chef Samir who has made Nick and Sam’s what it is today, and because of it’s success he is now the corporate chef and partner in not only Nick and Sam’s but the other popular local concepts Nick and Sam’s Grill and Coal Vines Pizza.

Nick and Sam’s is an A-list destination for out of towners as well as one of Dallas’ hottest steakhouses known not only for its prime steaks, but for its chops and seafood. On any given night you can find yourself rubbing elbows with celebrities and sports luminaries like Jamie Foxx, Lebron James, LL Cool J, Jordana Brewster, and Jessica Simpson just to name a few. And don’t be surprised to look over your menu and see Dallas Cowboys players Tony Romo, Jason Whitten, and Dez Bryant talking about last week’s game. They have all beaten a path to this beloved Dallas eatery to enjoy Samir’s dishes. Some highlights for your edible bucket list are the lauded Long Bone Cowboy, the Miyazaki, the Ohmi, and the new Hokaiddo Snow Beef, all high end cuts of beef that have received rave reviews. Pair any of these with Armand de Brignanc “Ace of Spades” Champagne, or a Millionaire’s Margarita and top it off with a one of a kind cotton candy dessert that glows and you’ve had a taste of Samir’s talent.

Under his capable direction, Nick and Sam’s has been named Dallas’ top steakhouse in Guide Live, and the extensive wine list has been given the Award of Excellence by Wine Spectator Magazine multiple times.

Samir also provides a vast array catering services for groups such as large wedding parties of 300 down to an intimate dinner parties. During this busy holiday season what a treat it would be to serve his delectable fair to your family and closest friends. Private rooms at Nick and Sam’s are also available for your business and social needs and are the perfect setting for your rehearsal dinner or to close that big deal. Something special is the Sunday Supper, a chef-themed dinner on the last day of the month featuring not only Nick and Sam’s chefs but special guest chefs, cooking and hosting a meal at a communal table.

This is right in line with something Samir said and certainly has contributed to his success:

“Never take your guests for granted. Take the best care of them, and everything else will fall into place.”- Samir Dhurandhar
