Fresh, Fearless, Fun–Pattern drenching might just be our favorite way to jazz up the table “À la Françoise.”
As the playful sister to the Print on Print scheme, Pattern Drenching is a maximalist dream for the “More is More” crowd. However, there is a thoughtful balancing act to this heavy-handed aesthetic. One part bold commitment, two parts thoughtful restraint is the only way to approach this stylish design. We think of this look as a joyful reminder that your weddings should be as rich in character as they are in love.
THE AESTHETIC DEFINED
"À la Françoise" is a phrase that translates to “in the manner of the French.” This simply means, although you are doubling own on patterns, you are doing so with intention. Think: the refined elegance of the French eye meets the maximalist nature-that is the heart of pattern drenching. We absolutely adore it. It’s basically the modus operandi of our business model (and why we offer several shades of the same pattern). This aesthetic allows you to be fearless with color choices while maintaining a harmonious style throughout the table. This look also allows for the chance to incorporate personal items that are rich in history or patina, giving a style that feels effortlessly elegant and never overdone. A nonchalant chicness that is so French!
MAKE IT "À LA LAFAYETTE"
Dinner in the backyard, but make it as epic as the grand oaks on the family estate. Louisiana obviously has a French feel, but after seeing this invigorating pattern-on-pattern trick curated by Kayla Jackson Southard of @jacksonsouthardevents at her client's private Lafayette estate, we may have to refer to this statement-making aesthetic as "à la Lafayette." Every detail of this wedding was a beautiful tribute to the story of the bride and groom, as well as the people and place that shaped them. Pattern drenching felt right at home here–nostalgic, authentic, and utterly joyful.
The wedding ceremony and reception took place amongst the estate’s sweeping oak trees. This grand scale called for an eye that could manage a custom reception layout as well as an interior design mindset. Jackson Southard Events does this so incredibly well. Bookcases showcasing the “Something Blue” Ginori Pervinca plates served as a dining room style backdrop for the cake cutting, while various seating vignettes make this sprawling space feel as charming as it was cozy. Even the winding tablescapes felt like their own magical world in this cohesive design.
LET THE PATTERN LEAD THE WAY
We've always stressed the importance of playing with your plates, and this wedding reception takes the cake. Let the pattern lead the way! Bold pairings bring an emotional warmth and depth to the table, making this a style that seamlessly transitions across seasons and settings. By layering the same style of floral/trellis pattern across multiple china patterns and linens, Jackson Southard Events could then play with the scale and texture of the florals. Antiques and personal items grounded the look, making this bold look feel right at home at the bride’s family estate.
THE HERO PIECE: Mottahedeh Lace Charger in Blue, Pink, Plum, and Apple Green.
Drenched: This beloved pattern can be a soft statement on its own or a brilliant way to bring in more color in complementary shades. We love how easily it plays with more embellished patterns as well.
THE HERO ACCENT: The Duchess Goblet in Pink, Blue, and Green.
Drenched: The same silhouette in various colors offers the same visual effect as print-on-print. The Brighterton-worthy goblet supplemented even more color in the same shades as the Mottahedeh Lace Chargers. High vibe color in a traditional goblet? Consider it the perfect finishing touch for a pattern-drenched tabletop.
