Tabletop Tuesday | Meadows Museum Treasures From the House of Alba, 500 Years of Art and Collecting

On September 9th at the Meadows Museum under a tent built around the 20th century sculpture Sho, by Jaume Plensa, guests gathered and sat down with members of the Spanish nobility. The present Duke of Alba and other prominent Dallas philanthropists, art lovers and residents celebrated the opening of a momentous exhibition. Treasures from the House of Alba, 500 Years of Art and Collecting, includes 130 works of art including the famed portrait of the Duchess of Alba in White by Goya himself… an image which many know by sight even if they might not be able to identify it by name. The collection is so full of works by well known artists from throughout the years that it’s almost hard to believe it is all under one roof, and even harder to imagine being owned by one family who have lived with these treasures for centuries.

As if this in itself weren’t enough reason to celebrate, it is also the 50th anniversary year of the Meadows Museum and this lavishly elegant evening was part of a number of events planned to commemorate this milestone.

Guests that evening enjoyed a dinner catered by Cassandra’s Fine Catering, and dined in a dreamy white tent featuring beautiful white florals, white linens, clear chargers and gold chiavari chairs . All of the dinner festivities were presided over by the large white mesh sculpture of Sho who has never before attended a black tie dinner due to the fact that this was the first tent built over the Plaza and 20th century sculpture garden.

POSH was also part of a luncheon held during a VIP preview tour of the collection held on Tuesday where our gold Versace china and Cupitol flatware graced an elegant tablescape fit for a Duke. Charles Eames said it best, “The details are not the details. They make the design.”
