Kale // A haute color for spring 2017

November 15, 2016 | Moodboard

The wait is over. Every year around the holidays, as the year comes to a close, we anxiously await the unveiling of Pantone’s Color of the Year. Their color prediction sets the precedent for all colors haute from runway fashion to tabletop. We’re excited to share that Pantone recently announced their top ten colors for spring 2017. One of our favorite colors from the list, you ask? Kale. Health junkies can step aside because Kale will no longer be known just as a hearty leaf.

Here’s what Pantone has to say about Kale:

“Evocative of the great outdoors and a healthy lifestyle, Kale is another foliage-based green that conjures up our desire to connect to nature, similar to the more vivacious Greenery. And, just as we see in nature, this lush and fertile natural green shade provides the perfect complementary background to the more vibrant tones in the palette.”

Kale has already been spotted in Ready to Wear Spring 2017 collections. Diane Von Furstenberg’s outfit from the collection shows the versatility of Kale to serve as a neutral and a striking color. Compared to the pink and orange on the pant, Kale recedes into the background, but on the blouse, Kale draws the eyes attention. Meanwhile, Valentino’s dress is more subdued with Kale-colored intricate details. Dark floral prints have weaved their way back into couture and models have been spotted with tousled hair and fresh faces, reinforcing the earthy look next season.

Transitioning to tabletop design, we’re excited to see earth tones take center stage this spring. We have a feeling Kale will take full force in outdoor weddings, with animated forestry sprucing up chair backs and centerpieces. We’ve already begun to see a transition to this color palette in weddings this year with flower walls, mixed metals, and vine table runners.

Here at POSH, we have the perfect tabletop pieces to incorporate Kale into your spring color palette. Using traditional favorites, such as our green vintage glassware and Charles Sadek Sevres, allow you to personalize the foliage color in your own tabletop. Don’t be afraid to mix in more modern pieces such as our Mikasa Smoke Glassware or the Marchesa Lenox collection.

Laura Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, says that next season’s colors “convey a sense of earthiness,” and “are reminiscent of the hues that surround us in nature.” Make sure Kale is mixed into your tabletop to impress your guests next spring!
